Clearing mechanically is kinder to plastic push-fit waste than boiling water and caustic products, which soften older pipe. Where a sink or gully blocks repeatedly we look at the fall along the run rather than clearing the same spot for a third time.

Waste and drainage rarely sit on their own. A bathroom being reworked needs the fall to the soil stack checked before anything is tiled, a new boiler needs a condensate route to a suitable drain, and a leak that looks like drainage is sometimes supply pipework instead.

We would rather you did not. Caustic products and boiling water can damage plastic waste pipes, especially older push-fit systems, and they rarely touch a blockage further along the run. They also make the pipe unpleasant to open afterwards.
Stop using sinks, showers and toilets so nothing more is added to the run, keep children and pets away from standing water, and wash thoroughly if you have handled anything contaminated. Then call, and if it is safe, tell us the water level in the nearest chamber.
