What we offer

A Mixergy cylinder offers a different approach to managing stored hot water: rather than always heating a full tank, its smart controls allow you to heat the amount you need. Installing one is still a cylinder project, with space, water supply, heating connections and safety arrangements to resolve. We plan those practical details alongside how you want to use the controls, so the proposal addresses the whole installation rather than the app alone.

John The Plumb is G3 qualified for unvented cylinder installation. We offer a free in-home survey followed by a fixed price in writing. If you are considering a Mixergy tank, start with the existing hot water system and the available space. The survey can then consider a suitable cylinder arrangement, compatibility with your boiler and the work needed to connect and commission it.

Heat the water you expect to use

The attraction of a smart cylinder is being able to manage the amount of stored hot water against your routine. A shorter period of demand need not mean heating the whole tank every time. That does not make cylinder size irrelevant: the installation still needs to suit the busiest periods, including occasions when several people want hot water close together. Describe those patterns at the survey, including any changes you expect at home, so the proposed capacity and control approach are considered together.

Check the pairing with your system boiler

A system boiler and cylinder must be compatible as a pair. The cylinder version, heating connections and control arrangement determine how the boiler provides heat to the stored water. Do not assume that every Mixergy model connects to every boiler in the same way. Bring the current boiler details and explain whether it is staying or being replaced. If both appliances are changing, planning them together helps establish the hot water arrangement before pipework and control positions are agreed.

Measure the cupboard and the installation route

A tank that fits on a plan may still be awkward to install or access. Check the doorway, stairs and route into the cupboard, as well as the space around the proposed cylinder for connections and future access. Existing shelves, pipework and other equipment can affect the usable area. Moving the cylinder to another position may change both the connecting routes and the work involved. The survey looks at those details before a model is selected, rather than treating the nominal cylinder dimensions as the entire space requirement.

Treat mains supply and discharge as essentials

An unvented cylinder relies on the incoming mains, so available pressure and flow need checking against household demand. Smart controls do not increase what the water supply can deliver. The installation also needs the appropriate safety devices and a suitable discharge route, planned for the chosen position. Those requirements belong in the design from the start, even where an older cylinder already occupies the cupboard. As a G3 qualified installer, we consider the unvented installation alongside the proposed heating and control connections.

Make the controls part of the handover

Mixergy's app control is part of how you manage the tank, so discuss the chosen model's connection requirements and how you would like to set hot water availability. Ask how to change the heated amount when your routine changes, and how to use the cylinder's own controls. The written installation scope should identify the equipment, connections and commissioning work, with the controls explained at handover. Keep the model information and operating instructions together, so you can check the functions supplied with your particular installation.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is a Mixergy cylinder?+

It is a smart hot water cylinder designed to manage how much stored water is heated, with app control. The available heating and connection options depend on the model. Selecting one still requires checks of capacity, space and the home's hot water system.

Can a Mixergy cylinder work with my boiler?+

A suitable cylinder configuration can be paired with a compatible boiler, including a system boiler. The survey checks the boiler, cylinder version and control connections before a proposal is made; do not assume every model is interchangeable.

Will smart controls solve low water pressure?+

No. Controls manage heating and hot water availability, not the incoming water supply. For an unvented installation, pressure and flow must be assessed separately, alongside demand at the outlets you want to use.
