Termination clearances
Distances from openable windows, doors, boundaries, soil pipes and internal corners are all specified. A plume that drifts into a neighbour's window is both a nuisance and a compliance issue.
Flues in voids
A flue running through a ceiling void must be accessible for inspection, which is what inspection hatches exist for. Without them the appliance may be classed as at risk.
Support and fall
Flues are set with a slight fall back to the appliance so condensate drains to the boiler, not to the joint outside.

Can a flue be extended?
Within the manufacturer's maximum equivalent length, using their own components. Mixing brands is not acceptable.
My flue is behind a new extension — is that a problem?
Very possibly. Building around a flue frequently makes it non-compliant and it must be reassessed.
Does a plume kit solve neighbour complaints?
Often, by redirecting the discharge. It has to remain within the permitted flue length.
