What we offer

Air to air heat pump installation gives selected rooms both heating and cooling through a split air conditioning system. The indoor unit delivers warmed or cooled air, with refrigerant pipework connecting it to an outdoor unit. It is the same type of system we install for domestic air conditioning: the difference is that you may be planning it around winter comfort as much as summer temperatures.

John The Plumb is REFCOM registered for F-Gas air conditioning work. We fit Worcester Bosch, Mitsubishi, Daikin, Panasonic and more, with single-split, multi-split and ducted options. A free in-home design and quote looks at how you use the rooms, where the equipment can go and how the new system would work alongside the heating already in your home.

Air to air heat pump installation

One system, two seasonal jobs

In cooling mode, heat is moved out of the room; in heating mode, the system moves heat into it from outside. This is why an air-to-air heat pump is also described as heating and cooling air conditioning. Reverse cycle air conditioning describes that change of direction, rather than a separate kind of installation. The practical question for a homeowner is where that flexibility would help: a home office used throughout the day, an extension or a loft room with different comfort needs from the rest of the house.

Keep the boiler's role clear

Room-based air conditioning can sit alongside an existing boiler rather than replacing every part of the heating system. You might use the heat pump in an occupied office while the boiler continues to supply radiators elsewhere. Discuss how the two sets of controls will be used, especially in adjoining rooms. These air-to-air systems do not provide domestic hot water. If the boiler currently heats a cylinder or supplies taps directly, that requirement remains a separate part of the home's heating and hot water arrangement.

Choose coverage before choosing equipment

For one room, a single split pairs an indoor unit with its own outdoor unit. Where several rooms need independent indoor units, a multi-split arrangement can share an outdoor unit. Ducted designs are another option when suitable ceiling space is available. Start with the rooms you want to heat and cool, their use and their available wall or ceiling space. The survey then considers a layout rather than assuming that one indoor unit will serve every room through open doors.

The outdoor unit is part of the design

An outdoor position needs more thought than finding an empty patch of wall. Pipe routes, access, drainage, airflow and nearby windows all influence whether a proposed location works. Consider neighbours as well as your own bedrooms and outdoor space, and discuss any permission needed before committing to the layout. Inside, the direction of airflow matters for desks, seats and beds. These choices are best made together because moving one unit can change the route and appearance of the connecting pipework.

From survey to everyday use

The written quote should set out the selected equipment and agreed installation routes. During fitting, the units and connecting services are installed before the system is tested and commissioned. The handover explains how to switch between heating and cooling and adjust the room settings. Choosing a familiar temperature routine is more useful than treating every control as a feature to use at once. Finance is available at 0% on Worcester Bosch systems; review the finance terms when considering that option for the installation.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Can an air to air heat pump replace my boiler?+

It can heat the rooms served by its indoor units, but it does not supply hot water or connect to your existing radiators. Consider room heating coverage and hot water separately before deciding what role your boiler will keep.

Do air to air heat pumps heat water?+

No. The split systems described here heat or cool indoor air. Your home's hot water needs a separate arrangement.

Can I use it for just one room?+

Yes. A single-split installation is a room-based option. If you want several indoor units, the design survey can consider a multi-split layout instead.
