Multi-Split Air Conditioning for Several Rooms

A multi-split runs several indoor units from one outdoor condenser. It keeps the outside of the building tidy and suits houses where three or four rooms need cooling but there is only one sensible condenser position.

The shared-outdoor compromise

All indoor units share one compressor, so simultaneous mode restrictions can apply. If one room wants heating while another wants cooling, that has to be designed for.

Pipe runs multiply

Each indoor unit needs its own refrigerant pair and condensate route. Planning those routes through the building is the bulk of the design work.

Sizing across rooms

You cannot simply add up the individual room loads; diversity and the condenser's capacity limits both come into it.

Plan a whole-home cooling layout

List the rooms you want covered and we will work out whether one condenser can genuinely serve them.

Questions we get asked

Can rooms be controlled separately?

Yes, each indoor unit has its own control and setpoint within the system's operating rules.

What if one indoor unit fails?

Usually the others keep running, though a compressor fault affects everything on that condenser.

Is servicing more involved?

There are more indoor units to clean and one condenser to check, so plan for a longer visit.
