Hard water deserves a special mention
Across much of southern England the incoming water is hard, and in a combi that matters twice: scale forms in the plate heat exchanger that makes your hot water, and it forms on the primary side if the system is run very hot.
The symptom homeowners notice is falling hot water performance and a slight kettling sound. The fix is preventative — appropriate scale reduction on the cold main feeding the appliance where the water justifies it, plus not running flow temperatures higher than the system needs.
