What it does

How it fails
Internal solenoids wear out, gas pressure settings drift, or the valve fails to open or close cleanly, both of which trigger boiler lockouts rather than silent faults.
Repair or replace
Some gas valves allow adjustment of pressure settings during servicing, but a faulty valve itself is always replaced, never repaired, given its safety function.
Signs the gas valve may be at fault
Ignition that fails even though the spark is fine, a boiler that lights then drops out, or a gas-valve fault code can all point to it. Because the valve is the safety barrier between the gas supply and the burner, testing, adjusting or replacing it is strictly Gas Safe work, followed by a combustion check.
