What we offer

Air con for conservatory comfort has to address two different experiences: a room that becomes too warm in sunshine and one that feels cold when the weather changes. A heat-pump split system can both cool and heat the space. The useful starting point is not simply the floor area, but the glazing, roof, available mounting surfaces and how often you want to use the room.

John The Plumb offers a free in-home design and quote for domestic air conditioning installation. We are REFCOM registered for F-Gas work and fit Worcester Bosch, Mitsubishi, Daikin, Panasonic and more. For a conservatory, the survey is particularly important because a glazed structure may leave fewer straightforward places for an indoor unit than a conventional room.

Design for the glass, not just the footprint

Two conservatories of similar size can feel very different if their roofs, glazing and exposure to sunlight differ. Tell us which part becomes hottest, whether blinds or other shading are used and how the doors connect the space to the house. Those details help describe the conditions the system will face. A unit selected without considering the glazing could be a poor match even if its size sounds suitable for the floor area on paper.

Find a mounting position the structure can support

A dwarf wall, a solid adjoining wall or part of the surrounding structure may offer a position to assess. The available height, support and airflow all matter; a glazed frame is not automatically a suitable mounting surface. Furniture can also make a seemingly convenient location less useful. We look at the construction and discuss realistic equipment positions before settling the design, rather than promising that any wall-mounted unit can be attached wherever there is an empty space.

Heating a room with changing conditions

Because a split air conditioning system is an air-to-air heat pump, the same installation can warm the conservatory as well as cool it. Consider how you want to use that heating: occasional meals, an occupied daytime room or a space linked closely to the house. Doors left open alter the area the system is being asked to condition. Discuss the room's boundaries and heating routine so the proposed setup reflects normal use, not just a brief visit on a sunny day.

Keep the outside route practical

The outdoor unit needs a considered position with space for airflow and access. Think about views from the glazing, outdoor seating, nearby windows and the route between the two units. Condensate from cooling must have somewhere suitable to drain, and the installation also needs its electrical connection planned. The survey brings those routes together. It is easier to compare options while they are being designed than to discover after choosing an indoor position that the external route is awkward.

A quote for the complete installation

The written proposal should identify the selected system, unit locations and agreed pipe and drainage arrangements. If the conservatory is part of a larger air conditioning project, discuss whether it should have its own single split or form part of a multi-split layout. At handover, the controls for heating and cooling are explained so you can use the room through different seasons. 0% finance is available on Worcester Bosch systems, with terms on our finance page for anyone considering that payment option.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Can you put air conditioning in a conservatory?+

A split system can be considered where suitable indoor and outdoor mounting positions, services and drainage routes are available. The survey checks the structure, glazing and room use before recommending the installation.

Will air conditioning heat my conservatory in winter?+

The split systems we install provide heating as well as cooling. The design needs to take account of the conservatory's glazing, construction and intended use rather than assuming every room needs the same unit.

Does it need a full-height solid wall?+

The mounting options depend on the structure and selected equipment. A dwarf wall or another solid surface can be assessed, but support, clearance and airflow must be checked before agreeing a position.
