What we offer

Ideal boilers are widely fitted in British homes, from compact combis in flats to system boilers in family houses. If you would like an Ideal boiler, we can install one. We fit all the major brands, including Vaillant, Ideal and Baxi, and this page walks through what an Ideal installation with us actually involves, step by step, so you know what to expect before anyone arrives with tools.

John The Plumb is Gas Safe registered (554328) and a Worcester Bosch accredited installer. We will happily fit an Ideal boiler where it suits the home, and if a different brand would serve you better we will explain why. You receive a fixed price in writing after a free in-home survey.

Ideal boiler installation

Step 1: the survey

We start by looking at the boiler you have now, how it is connected and where its flue and condensate run. We ask how many people live in the home, how many bathrooms you use and whether showers ever run at the same time. Water pressure and flow are tested, because they decide whether a combi will deliver what you expect. We also look at the radiators and controls. By the end, we can recommend an Ideal model of the right type and output, or explain why a different arrangement would work better.

Step 2: the written quote

The quote sets out the boiler model, any changes to the flue, pipework or controls, how the system will be cleaned and the magnetic filter being fitted. It is a fixed price in writing, so the figure you agree is the figure you pay for that scope. If you want to compare it with other quotes, check that each one covers the same work, not just the same boiler.

Step 3: installation day

We protect floors and the area around the boiler, then drain the system and remove the old appliance. The new Ideal boiler is mounted and connected to gas, water, heating, flue and condensate. Where the boiler is going in the same position, much of the existing route can often be reused after checking it meets current requirements. If it is moving, new pipework and a new flue are run to the agreed location.

Step 4: cleaning, filling and commissioning

With the boiler in, the heating system is cleaned and refilled with inhibitor, and the magnetic filter is installed to catch debris from now on. The boiler is commissioned: gas pressure, combustion and safety checks are carried out and recorded, and the heating and hot water are tested at every outlet and radiator. Only once everything is working properly do we move on to the handover.

Step 5: handover and registration

We show you how to use the boiler and controls, how to top up the pressure if needed and what the display is telling you. The installation is registered and the paperwork left with you. Ideal sets its own manufacturer guarantee terms for each model, so keep the documents together and check what is required to keep the guarantee valid.
